Festival's logo by Mirko Ilić has been selected for the world's largest identity-design competition
The Festival of Tolerance’s logo, designed by Mirko Ilić, was selected to compete in the world’s largest competition regarding visual identity – the 8th LogoLounge. At this years event over 35 thousand logos were submitted from 100 countries and were evaluated by a strict jury of eight members who selected the works that represent the top of global design.
The jury chose two logos that were submitted by the festival and these were from the 6th and 7th edition. As well as this the logos of the Festival of Tolerance will be included in the book LogoLounge volume 8.
World-renowned designer Mirko Ilić, the author of the visual identity of the festival, explained the process of creating the aesthetic of the Festival of Tolerance.
‘’Last year for the 6th Zagreb Jewish Film Festival – the Festival of Tolerance – I created a Star of David in which a triangle becomes a heart. With this I wanted to say that tolerance is the same as love. When I found out that the theme of this year’s festival is equality I decided to once again use the Star of David. Looking at the star for a while it dawned on me that the form could be reduced to three pairs of lines. The parallel and horizontal lines are a symbol of equality in a mathematical sense. To me it seemed like perfectly logical solution for the logo of the 7th Festival of Tolerance. Also, to emphasise the equal signs I used different colours. During the design process I received an unexpected bonus when the negative space in the center of the logo created another Star of David.’’ explains Ilić.
This year during the Educational Mornings of the Festival of Tolerance Mirko Ilić held a lecture entitled ‘’Symbols of Hate’’ on Monday 20th of May in cinema Europa. Also, the festival’s exhibition of ‘’Anti-Masonic posters’’ is from his private collection and can be seen on the first floor of cinema Europa during the festival.FESTIVAL'S
