The Festival of Tolerance - 2nd Sarajevo Jewish Film Festival will take place from 25th to 27th October, 2013, at the Meeting Point cinema, Hamdije Kreševljakovića 13, and will be realized in cooperation with the Jewish cultural, educational and humanitarian society “La Benevolencija”. Previously our Festival was organized in this city in July 2008, also at the Meeting Point cinema, as it consisted of the screening of 13 films and the photo exhibition “Following the Traces of the Jewish Culture”. The Festival lasted three days and more than 1000 visitors saw its programs.
As a part of this year's Festival, we will present the “Anti-Masonic posters” exhibition, organize the Educational mornings program, intended for pupils from Sarajevo, and hold the screening of 14 films selected from the Zagreb's edition of the Festival.
The edition in Sarajevo will be the third one that our Association is organizing this year. Previous two editions were already held in Zagreb (in May) and Rijeka (in June) and they attracted around 10600 visitors. The theme of the Festival in Sarajevo will be a follow-up to these editions, focusing on tolerance, its meaning in the context of suffering and life struggle but also in the context of peaceful coexistence in its broadest sense. We will present 14 films in the categories of feature, documentary and short films that talk about the necessity to respect the different, intending to leave a memorable impression on the viewers and motivate them to contemplate about ethically correct social engagement. The selected film program is mostly composed of renowned films awarded by international festivals. All films shown at the Festival are translated in English and Croatian. Film projections make the central part of the program and, as it has been done every year, the audience will have the opportunity to vote for the best and the most impressive film. The audience will also get the opportunity to discuss films with the filmmakers after projections. Aiming to attract the largest possible audience and make the festival program available to all age and social groups, tickets for the film projections will be free of charge.
Bringing the Festival to Sarajevo presents an extraordinary step forward for the cultural and institutional cooperation in the region, and this city becomes the host of the only film festival in the world focusing on the education of the young, particularly underlying the importance of conveying the truth about the Holocaust, developing tolerance, understanding differences and every individual’s right to life.
